What to expect

Getting an Approval in Principle is free and easy to do.

As a responsible lender, we want to make sure you can afford your mortgage. That’s why we check your details against our lending criteria and use credit reference agencies to assess your credit score. This ‘soft’ credit check will leave a ‘search footprint’ on your credit record. But don’t worry, only you can see this so it won’t affect your future credit rating.

When you start your Approval in Principle on the next page, please take a couple of minutes to read the Initial Disclosure Document (IDD). You’ll find the tick box to confirm you’ve read it in the ‘Mortgage Advice’ Section.

Things to look out for:

  • The form we’ll ask you to complete is called a ‘Mortgage Application’. By applying for an Approval in Principle, however, you’re not committing to taking out a mortgage with us.
  • At this stage, you don’t need to provide the documents that are requested as these are only needed for the full mortgage application.
  • Once you’ve got your Approval in Principle, you can either ‘Save and exit’ and come back later, or ‘Save and continue’ if you want to go ahead with your mortgage application in full.
