The Homes for Ukraine scheme
The UK government has announced the new Homes for Ukraine scheme to support refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
We fully support this scheme and we’ll make it as simple as possible for those who want to take part and be a sponsor.
We’ve included some helpful information below – we’ll keep updating this as we know more.
How can my clients sign up as a sponsor?
Your clients can find up to date information and register their interest in the scheme at the Homes for Ukraine website.
If my clients sign up as a sponsor, will they be charged anything?
No. If your clients become a sponsor, we won’t charge them a higher interest rate or any fees.
My clients have a Leeds Building Society mortgage. Do they need to contact you?
They don’t need to tell us before signing up to be a sponsor.
If your client is providing a room or rooms in their own property or a residential propety that they own, they don't need to ask for our consent. However we advise, for their own purposes, they obtain a tenancy agreement as set out in the government guidance.
If your client's family budget is already squeezed and they're thinking of being a sponsor, please ensure they remember that they'll need to keep up with mortgage payments and household bills. Taking part in the scheme could affect their ability to make mortgage payments, which may put their home at risk. For further help please look at our guidance, the government guidance and the Money Helper website.
Is there anything else my clients need to know?
If your clients have a Shared Ownership mortgage with us, they should also contact their Housing Association to let them know they’ve been approved.
Your clients may wish to contact their buildings and or contents insurer to check if they require their consent.
